Therefore (1 Corinthians 15:50-58, 1 Corinthians 16:1-3)

Pastor Steve NewtonPastor Steve Newton, April 15, 2018
Part of the 1 Corinthians series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

There are, 1,035 “therefores” in the Bible. Someone said, only partially in jest, that the most important word in the Bible is “therefore.” Biblical faith from beginning to end is a synthesis of mind, heart and body: ideas and concepts and propositions, and the devotion of the heart in prayer and meditation and personal spirituality, and practice, the life lived, the action taken, as some put it so eloquently, “walkin’ the walk, not just talkin’ the talk.”

THE INVITATION TO MEMBERSHIP at Westminster Church is always open to persons who wish to join us in witness and service to Jesus Christ. If you are interested in church membership or desire more information about this congregation, please call the church office at 936-564-0203.

1 Corinthians 15:50-58

50Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. (KJV)

1 Corinthians 16:1-3

1Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. 3And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem. (KJV)
