These Table Blessings are based on prayers found in the Presbyterian Book of Common Worship (1946)
O God, who taught us to keep all your commandments by loving you and our neighbors, grant us the spirit of peace and grace that we may be both devoted to you with our whole heart and united to each other with a pure will. Make us grateful for all your mercies and provisions. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
O God, who commanded us to be perfect, as you are perfect, put into our hearts, we pray, a continual desire to obey your holy will. Teach us day by day what you would have us do and give us grace and power to fulfill the same. May we never from love of ease decline the path which you pointed out, nor for fear of shame turn away from it. Nourish us, body and soul, with this our daily bread; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Heavenly Father, you have filled the world with beauty. Open our eyes to behold your gracious hand in all your works that, rejoicing in your whole creation, we may learn to serve you with gladness for the sake of Him by whom all things were made. Make us mindful of others, as we receive these blessings; in Jesus’ name. Amen.
O God, you are the Author of peace and Lover of harmony, you have given
us the knowledge of eternal life, and in your service is perfect freedom. Defend us from any desire that would direct us away from your purpose and aid us by your Spirit to love all people. Sustain our bodies with this food, our hearts with true friendship, and our souls with your truth; for Christ’s sake, Amen.
Heavenly Father, from you come all holy desires, good counsels, and just works. Give us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give so that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments. We pray you will defend us from our fears and timidity so that with boldness we may walk in your ways. Refresh us with your gifts and sustain us with the bounty of your riches. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
O most loving Father who wills us to give thanks for all things, to dread nothing, but to cast all our cares upon you who cares for us, preserve us from faithless fears and worldly anxieties. Grant that no clouds of this mortal life may hide from us the light of your love, which has been manifested to us in Jesus Christ our Lord. Blessed be your name, for you give us day by dayour daily bread. Amen.
Lord Jesus, be our holy Guest, Our morning Joy, our evening Rest. And with our daily bread impart Thy love and peace to every heart. Amen.
